The 3rd Time SSPA Examination, Application for Secondary One Discretionary Places and the Student Grant

Regarding the latest epidemic development, the Secretary for Education said on a press conference on 6th February 2020 that all schools in Hong Kong (including kindergartens, primary schools, secondary schools, special schools and private schools offering non-formal curriculum) would resume classes on 2th March the earliest pending further assessment.

If class resumes after 9th March, the 3rd time SSPA Examination will be cancelled. The discretionary place (DP) allocation will therefore be arranged base on the results of P.5 final examination and P.6 first examination.

Starting from the present SSPA cycle, all participating secondary schools will notify parents of all successful applicants of their children’s inclusion in the Successful Lists for Discretionary Places on 7th April 2020. The deadline for parents to retrieve the originals of the signed undertakings and the Primary 6 Student Record Forms for their children, who have been offered an S1 place by an NDSS secondary school but would like to retain their DP offer, has been deferred to 16th April 2020. The date for NDSS secondary schools to submit their Successful Lists of Participating Students to EDB has been changed to 4th May 2020.

The application deadline for the $2500 Student Grant has further postponed to 2 weeks after class resumes. The EDB expected extra time will be needed to handle the applications due to the deferred resumption of class.

According to the Centre for Health Protection (CHP), build up good body immunity and have a healthy lifestyle. This can be achieved through a balanced diet, regular exercise and adequate rest. Parents are advised to maintain good personal and environmental hygiene. Parents could visit the CHP website (http://www.chp.gov.hk) for more information on communicable diseases. Please, also be reminded to pay special attention to the latest announcements of the Education Bureau, on eClass, and the school website.
